Some places seem familiar before we know where they are. We recognise their landscapes, objects, colours or inhabitants without being able to locate them. They may appear in dreams, emerge from an internal state, or survive as fragments whose origins we can no longer trace.

The works of Marlene Mautner, Philipp Doboczky and Franky Daubenfeld meet within this uncertain geography.
Marlene Mautner gives material and systemic form to speculative environments shaped by dreams, scientific research and imagined forms of life. Philipp Doboczky translates internal states through an intuitive and physical painting process, allowing gestures to shift between abstraction, landscape and figuration.  Franky Daubenfeld constructs images and artefacts whose origins and functions remain uncertain, hovering between the recognisable and the unknown.

Together, the works begin to resemble fragments of a place that cannot be mapped: landscapes without fixed locations, objects without certain histories, and memories without an identifiable source.

The island has no coordinates. Perhaps it does not need them in order to exist.
